August Rodin
Consisting of a series of over 50 sculptures, each is an edition of eight and was cast using the lost wax process from the foundry plasters. The bronzes are all finished using the exact same patinas and techniques that were during the life of the artist and all dimensions and details are exact to lifetime casts. Rodin was undoubtedly one of the most international recognised and most productive artist of the 20th century. The exhibition on display shows that it is once again possible to capture the essence of the artist’s life accomplishments in bronzes of the highest quality, cast from foundry plasters. Plaster was the form in which Rodin documented his genius. First modelling in clay, which disintegrates over time, Rodin recorded a composition's important stages and finished form by making a negative mould (un moule bon creu) from the clay. He then used this mould to cast a permanent form in plaster. A plaster was always the starting point for further innovations in the composition or replication in bronze or stone. Rodin’s position is now guaranteed in the pantheon of greatest artists of Western tradition and now both the admirer and the collector have the opportunity to view and acquire bronzes from a collection of some of Rodin’s most legendary pieces. Notes to Editors: The present collection of Rodin bronzes originates from the compilation of foundry plasters, which has been acquired over several decades with the intention of reproducing some of Rodin’s greatest masterpieces. By using the finest craftsmanship and techniques developed by his fondeurs, bronze casts were created from the plasters collection with the utmost attention to the details, size, and patinas which exist in casts supervised by the artist during his lifetime. With this purpose in mind, lifetime casts were examined, and the foundry plasters selected were those which maintained the details and quality of Rodin's best works.
