The band released five albums, earned six Grammy awards, and in 2003 was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Since 1985, Sting has released 13 solo albums. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of his solo career, 25 Years, the definitive box set collection, was recently released. The Best Of 25 Years is also available as a double disc. Sting has sold nearly 100 million albums from his combined work with the Police and as a solo artist and has earned an additional 10 Grammy awards, a Golden Globe, an Emmy, and three Oscar nominations. This summer, Sting will perform many of his most celebrated hits at the Henley Festival on July 4, 2012.

Still sexy at 60! Sting keeps concertgoers entertained with an energetic performance at this year's Henley Festival
By Sarah Bull
PUBLISHED:| UPDATED:

He might be 60 but Sting is showing no sign of slowing down.

The legendary singer was one of the lead acts at this year's Henley Festival, and proved that despite his advancing years, he still has the ability to delight his fans with renditions of some of his most famous tracks.

Literally bounding on to the stage at the event, held in a stunning location overlooking the water, Sting performed songs such as the ever-exciting Roxanne, the moving Fields Of Gold and the energetic Every Little Thing She Does In Magic.

Belting it out: Sting delighted the festival goers with renditions of tracks such as Roxanne and Fields Of Gold

Fans were also treated to a brief appearance from Madness singer Suggs, who made his way onto the stage for a brief interlude during the show.

Sting's performance was just one of the high-octane concerts which took place during the five-day festival.

Other performances came from Katherine Jenkins, Olly Murs, Alfie Boe and Lulu, as well as comedian Tim Minchin, who all delighted the crowds with their different styles.

Famous faces: Suggs, who briefly joined Sting on stage, mingled with fellow stars including Nancy Dell'Olio

Smiles all round: Sting looked casual in a green jumper earlier in the day, while Suggs went for a dapper look in his suit and tie

Refreshment time! Sting was presented with a special bottle of Patrón tequila before taking to the stage

The festival is quickly becoming known as one of the most exciting musical events of the summer.

As well as the concerts, the 24,000 guests at the Henley Festival had their pick of culinary delights and thirst-quenching concoctions from names such as Veuve Clicquot and the delicious Patrón tequila, who came up with a variety of cocktails to keep festival-goers and performers alike refreshed during the festival.

Concoctions included the Patrón Cosmopolitan, the Patrón XO Cafe Frappe and non-alcoholic cocktail the Red Berry Smash.

Keeping guests watered: Patrón hostesses served cocktails including the Patrón Cosmopolitan to guests

What a finish! After Sting's performance, the evening was rounded off with an impressive firework and laser display

Complete with a Black Tie dress code, the Henley Festival is definitely the festival of choice for the more discerning music lover.

Henley Festival 2012: With A Little Help From My Friends

I think I speak for all of us in the UK when I say, ‘enough already’ with this rain!  It’s been dreadful!  But when something like a sunless summer gets me down, music lifts me up.  That was the case this last weekend when I hit the stage at the time-honored Henley Festival.

Henley is known as the most ‘magical summer event in the United Kingdom.’ I never attended or performed at there until this year and I must say it’s unlike anything I’ve experienced!  For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, Henley is a ‘black tie’ outdoor festival with a little something for everyone.  It’s held on the banks of the Thames, and food, music, art and wine are all equally abundant.  And as any amateur weatherman could predict, it rained.  It was truly something to look out at the crowd and see tuxes and gowns and wellies!  Distinctly British…

But the good times rolled in spite of the rain, thanks to the amazing musicians and talents that joined me on stage.  Lee, Duncan, Antony and Simon – aka “Blue” have four of the most amazing voices; and their harmonies!  It doesn’t get any better.  They normally perform in front of thousands of screaming girls, so you’d never hear the intricacies of their voices, but the Henley crowd was treated to fab a cappella singing that got a huge reaction.

The set list included some of the songs I most love to perform live, including the Etta James classic, “Something’s Gotta Hold on Me”.   And of course we did “Shout” and “I Don’t Want To Fight”.  Thanks to Peridot, who helped me bring a little extra ‘swagger’ to Henley!  Together we performed my “Let’s Dance For Comic Relief” version of Soulja Boy’s “Crank That”.  (Here’s a little video sampling of it thanks to one of my backup singers, Mark).

It was just a great night.  My good friend Jimmy Smith and my guitarist Alan Darby (a fellow Scot, who has played with Clapton, among others) brought the house down with an incredible “Eagle”-like guitar jam to “Still the One”.  And I was blown away by “The Brasstitutes” who are three magnificent horn players who also know how to get their groove on!  They brought ‘the business’ to “I Can’t Turn You Loose.”

It was also great to see so many of my QVC friends there – Alison, Pipa (check out her blog about the evening), Vanessa, Wendy, Dickie and Luke.  Thanks for all the support!

And one final, special thanks to Caroline Stewart for sharing her wonderful photos with me!)

So tell me, have you attended Henley before?  What do you most like about the festival.  Were you there last Saturday?  Let’s hear it!

(And for those of you who have noticed that I have been absent from my blog for a bit, I’m back!)
