‘Awakening’ is a rare opportunity for art connoisseurs to view so many of Rodin’s seminal works in one place. Where they are set against the contemporary work of one of Russia’s leading artists Asya Feoktistova, illustrating how truly versatile the work is. Asya Feoktistova, one Russia’s leading contemporary artists brings her unique style described as lyrical expressionism to this her first solo show in London. Her oils and graphic works monumental in scale and her colour combinations give her works extra visual depth, which are highlighted by her confident brushwork. As can be seen both in her portraits ‘Girl with Auburn Hair’ and ‘Portrait of Aksel on the Red Chair’ as well as her abstract still-life studies of ‘Love of Lemons and Other Fruit’ and ‘Wet Irises’. Two of Asya’s collections 'Awaiting Tulips' and 'Kiwi Time' were exhibited in the State Museum of Art in her native Nizhny Novgorod. Her work has been staged in unusual venues including the ruins of the Tsar's cinema, an abandoned mansion and several embassies in Moscow. Her work is collected in Russia, the UK, Switzerland, the USA, Austria, the Netherlands, France and Italy.

Notes to Editors: Hay Hill Gallery founded in 1995, has recently relocated to Cork Street. The Hay Hill Gallery was founded as a joint venture between the Russian company Art Service Centre Ltd with over nine years experience of the international art scene, and the British company Sirin Ltd. The Hay Hill Gallery continues to introduce modern artists whose work pays homage to academic traditions; and mount exhibitions focussing on sculpture and international art. Based in Moscow, she is a regular participant in group and solo art shows. Two of her collections are in the State Museum of Art in Nizhny Novgorod. Other projects were staged in unusual venues including the ruins of the Tsar's cinema, an abandoned mansion and several embassies in Moscow. Her work can be seen in collections in Russia, the UK, Switzerland, the USA, the Netherlands, Austria, France and Italy. An artist and stage designer she was born in Nizhny Novgorod in 1967. Upon graduating from the Moscow College of Art in 1986, working in her native city as a theatrical artist triggered her desire for artistic experiment. One of the largest influences on her art was the renowned artist Oleg Bordey. His unconventional way of painting as well as an unshakable confidence in his artistic beliefs gave the young artist a strong sense of direction and self-assurance. Sveta Yavorsky (17 - 25 March 2009, new works): The artist studied art and architecture at the Moscow University of Architecture, and at the private studios of her uncle and mother, both professional artists, skilled in the art of murals and mosaics. Initially architecture had a profound impact on her work, as she began to use geometrical shapes and patterns, which surrounded and blended with the surreal and floating figures that formed the centerpiece of the works. After graduating from university, she took part in several exhibitions both in Moscow and abroad, eventually moving to London permanently. With the cultural change came a new direction in her work. Setting aside the architectural shapes, she started to concentrate more on the interaction of colours in her paintings, and the creation of a dynamic inner movement within the static composition of her figures. Introducing John Speirs "I was born in Cape Town with a paintbrush in one hand and a tube of oil paint in the other. Throughout my formative years in South Africa, I was lauded as a prodigy and greatly indulged by leading artists – Irma Stern, Maggie Laubser and Eleanor White. My ego soared. At the Michaelis School of Art, I was too hot to handle and was shipped off to The Slade with a hefty bursary in my pocket. The Slade was my perfect catalyst. Colour, flashy paintwork and exuberant draughtsmanship – often frowned upon by the establishment – brought me to the attention of Larry Rivers, Oskar Kokoschka and others who recognized my hedonistic spirit.
The need to support a family and a dangerous
appetite for collecting paintings took me through years of restraint in
advertising, packaging, fashion, publishing in London Paris and New
York. But the love of paint, deep in my soul, had to burst out. After a
long sabbatical I took up the oil paint, the brush and a heady lungful
of turps and started to paint again with a passion I had never known
before. My head became filled with images of my childhood in
Africa. African colour flooded my eyes whilst African music assaulted my
